About

Hi I’m Rachel Lemay, an art and dance teacher based in Morrisville, VT. Originally from Newbury, Vermont, I have always had a love for the arts.

Artist Statement

My love for art has no limits. The visual and performing arts have always been a significant part of my life. Through these mediums I have been able to explore my own personal strengths and weaknesses, as well as emotions and important events in my life. Through this exploration, I have discovered that sharing my passion for the arts and dance with others provides the most meaning for me.

Throughout my time at college at NVU-Johnson, I was able to learn and grow as an artist, dancer, and teacher. The courses I took and the experiences in classrooms I  had deepened my appreciation for these mediums, and the importance of passing this appreciation on to others. By furthering my own skill level in these areas, I have also increased my ability to teach them to others.

Since college, I have begun my teaching career. I have worked in a wide variety of educational settings, from being in a supporting role, to teaching afterschool classes, to being an art teacher in my own classroom. I have learned and developed the art of conveying information about art and artistic processes to a wide range of students, with differences in age and ability. The most fulfilling and exciting part of teaching is seeing what students create under my guidance! When a student expresses joy and success with an art piece, then I know I have done my job well. I hope to continue to develop my craft of teaching as I gain experience in my career.

My main goal with my artwork is to show others my passion for life. My artwork typically depicts places I have been or a love I have for a particular place or activity. I often gravitate towards depicting the beauty of nature. As an outdoor enthusiast, I find inspiration whenever I am enjoying time outdoors. Through my art, I hope to convey the beauty of nature and the emotion I felt while being in that particular place.

Dance and art have always collided in both my visual artwork and choreography. My visual work often expresses dance and my choreographed pieces are often very visual, expressing certain poses that could be part of a painting or drawing. In the end, I hope that both my choreography and visual art causes viewers to feel how I felt in that particular moment.

Overall, I hope to be able to share this love of the arts with others throughout my life.
